Little Turtle Waterway Walk

If you enjoyed the last two trail walks we offered at our 50th year class reunion, we now have another outstanding chance to walk, visit, smell, and hear the  beauty of the Banks of the Wabash!

Please gather at 8:45 AM with your beverage of choice at the overlook directly across from Amelio’s s on Melbourne Avenue. At 9 AM, founder and Executive Director of the Little Turtle Waterway, Mercedes Brugh, will give us a 15 to 20 minute historic look back about the completion of the trail and the history of Miami chief Little Turtle. There will be Bolin’s donuts for those of us not counting carbs!!

When on the walk itself, Lisa Terry will provide expert information about the red light district, the downtown art installations, and the history of the huge mural at 18th and Woodlawn Ave. (the Transco Railway Products building).

Please RSVP so that Lisa can have an idea of how many classmates will walk the trail to 18th Street and back. To RSVP, click the link below and provide your name, email address, and a short message that you're attending the LIttle Turtle Walk.

As she did at the 50 Year reunion, Katya Swisher and her Vibrant Events team will provide the appetizers and the buffet dinner.

There will be a Cash Bar for all adult libations (bring your ID!). However, all non-alcoholic drinks will be provided free-of-charge.

Happy Birthday!

Since this is a celebration of most of our classmates' 71st birthdays in 2024, we'll be able to enjoy a slice of Birthday Cake. Unfortunately, local fire codes prohibit 71 candles on the cake. Too bad.

What a Deal! Go get your ticket: Purchase Tickets

Closest-to-the-Pin Competition

The LGC has two indoor Trackman Simulators. If you're not familiar with golf simulators, you hit golf shots into a screen with a video projection of a world-famous green that we can select. We can also determine the yardage so that even non-golfers have a chance to hit the green. The software in the simulator will measure your ball's distance to the hole.  Each competitor will be given three shots. Their closest ball to the hole will be recorded by the impartial referees. Cash prizes will be awarded to the competitors with the three balls closest to the pin (three prizes for the men and three for the women). However, side-bets and talking smack between golfers are encouraged.

The men's tee will be set to 125 yards. The women's tee will be 75 yards. Women's and men's golf clubs (right and left handed) will be provided by the LGC. Or, bring your own!

Photographs

Friend of the Class of 1971, Rich Voorhees, will take the group photo, individual classmate photos, and candid shots. His best shots will be uploaded to the Photo Albums on the website. However, classmates are encouraged to take their own photos and upload them to the website.

Outdoor Activities

Given that it's likely to be a hot August night, there will be some outdoor seating, picnic tables, bags (e.g. corn-hole),  and a fire pit. Skinny-dipping in the Wabash off Potawatomi Point is at your own risk. There won't be a life guard on duty. Golf cart demo derby was vetoed.

Music

A local DJ, 10-70 Entertainment, will provide music for your dining, dancing, and listening pleasure. We're committed to keeping the volume down to allow normal conversation.

Accessibility at the LGC

The LGC has undergone extensive renovations since we were at LHS. As you can see in the pictures below, access to the venue has no steps, making it wheel-chair accessible. All of the rooms are on the same floor. The rest rooms are ADA-compliant.
