Our Class of ’71 Turns 71 reunion and birthday party was held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Logansport Golf Club (LGC). Exactly 100 tickets to the event were sold through our website.
The LGC was the perfect venue for our reunion. Ample space in the dining room, the bar, and the patio, which allowed for actual conversations between classmates. Many classmates who were not able to attend the 50-year reunion in 2021 were able to attend this one. It was great to see everyone.
Special shout-out to Randy Hitchens & Jon Williams, who produced the video portions of the evening, and Becky Danely Frushour & Rosemary Weaver Schlabach, who created Berry-themed holiday wreaths and ornaments and provided the table centerpieces. Jon & Sheila Bruck Jackson created the name tags with senior portraits so that we would know who we were talking to.
Katya Swisher, owner of Vibrant Events catering, prepared and served the appetizers and the dinner. Austin Townsend of 10-70 Entertainment was our DJ and played all of the “Boomer” hits from our LHS years.
Helping to check-in the attendees and keep the riff-raff out were Lynne Harris (’74), Rita Crain Kleinschmidt (’72), and Steve Muelhausen (’72).
Special mention to Amy Carter, manager of the LGC, who assisted the committee throughout the planning process and was on-hand during the event to keep things running smoothly.
Mike "Bird" Hickman organized a mini golf outing at the venerable Dykeman Golf Course on Saturday morning. Perfect weather -- not so perfect golf!
On Friday night, early-arriving classmates were welcomed at the People's Social (formerly the People's Winery) by proprietors Izzy Crain and Paxton Anderson. A very classy place where, as the owners say, "neighbors become friends".
Mercedes Brugh of the Little Turtle Waterway Corporation presented a brief history of Chief Little Turtle of the Miami people and the significance of the Wabash River waterway. Then some of your intrepid classmates hiked from 4th Street to 18th Street and back along the waterway. No injuries reported.
Closest-to-the-Pin Contest
One of the many highlights of the evening was the Closest-to-the-Pin competition held on the dual Trackman simulators. A few good shots and many not-so-good shots. But, lots of creative trash-talk! Here are the winners:
Women Men
1st place $100 Sheila Paul-Evans Mike “Bird” Hickman
2nd place $50 Daniele Keller Sharp Doug Loner
3rd place $25 Denise Easley Gumm Steve Fissel & Phil Sharp (tie)

Good friend and honorary member of the Class of ’71, Rich Voorhees, took photos throughout the evening. Rich's photos (and a few classmate snapshots) can be viewed on the LHS Photo Albums page (see the LHS Photo Albums link in the menu bar at the top of this page).
