Things you always wanted to do, but didn't: Climb Mount Everest (not really, but I felt that I needed to include it), skydive, ride my motorcycle to Alaska, ride my motorcycle through South America, visit Africa, learn to play the guitar,
Things you're still thinking of doing: Visit Africa, play the guitar,
Funny or interesting story about travel: A buddy of mine and I were leading a group of ten Chinese riders on a promotional motorcycle tour of the western United States in 2015. As we pulled into Carey, ID, we noticed people lining the highway on both sides, and they started cheering. We felt like celebrities, but we had no idea why. Turned out that we had pulled into town just before they closed off the highway for their annual Carey Days parade, and the town thought that we were the beginning of the parade. Needless to say, we stayed and watched.
Things you remember most about your years at LHS: Sitting across the room from Chris Englebrecht, Classes stopping whatever they were doing to count Cindy Wood's sneezes, Janet Roark saying "Paint it Black" was one of her favorite songs at the library while working on a research paper, Donna Rozzi not understanding how Joe Szyfchek and I could ignore History Class, but still do well on the tests. It was only because the tests were very predictable. Pulling across Broadway at 9th street in front of Mr. Rice during my Junior year. That was not a pleasant experience explaining to my Dad how the car got wrecked. Needless to say, my math grades suffered with Mr. Rice my Senior Year.
Obstacles you've overcome since high school: I was overprotected as a child. I was very naive and scared shitless when I had to deal with life as an adult. I overcame a lot of obstacles during those early years, and learned much more about myself. Fortunately, I'm more outgoing now, and life is quite enjoyable these days. Looking back, I find that I regret not what I did, but what I didn't do, so I continue to live my life with that in mind.
Shout out to someone/something that was a positive force in your life: I am wired to take care of people, although I didn't realize it until I became a single parent. Later, when my Mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I quit my job and moved to Florida to help my sister take care of her for the next 4 years. The challenge of parenting helped me realize who I am supposed to be. I continue to appreciate challenges in life, and believe that most people should challenge themselves more. It's surprising what you're capable of when you step outside of your comfort zone.
Any other comments you'd like to share?: Thank you for the invitation. The reunion committee did an outstanding job with the 50th reunion (that I missed), and they continue to do so, maintaining this site with continued updates. I plan to make this year's "71 turns 71 Reunion", and once again plan to be in Logansport for a couple of months, and will be happy to help in any way that I can. We'll see if I make it this time. |

Comment: I left Indiana for some college in New Orleans then back for a little more at IU before moving to New York City for a taste of the starving artist life but of course my parents, Nelle and Ken, couldn't let me go hungry. After a year and a half I moved to Los Angeles where brother Garry was also trying to avoid real work and I spent 22 years there, then 16 in nearby Santa Barbara. In 2013 my wife Julie and I followed our daughter Emily Rose to Austin, Texas. She graduated in 2016 and a year later moved to Atlanta. At the end of 2021 we moved to a little house in the country outside Hudson, NY and are very much enjoyinglife here, continuing in our business of hand-crafting videos, largely these days for nonprofits and smaller businesses.

Things you're still thinking of doing: Making couch pillows and selling them online and at swap meets.
Funny or interesting story about travel: We drove from Barcelona, Spain to Florence, Italy and stopped in to see the leaning tower in Pisa. A couple months later we got a ticket in the mail from the Municipality of Pisa for about $200 for having taken a wrong turn into a \"pedestrians only\" area.
Things you remember most about your years at LHS: I moved to Logan in the middle of our sophomore year and remember all of my new classmates being wonderfully warm and accepting, thanks!
Shout out to someone/something that was a positive force in your life: My partner, Julie, has been incredibly patient with my whims and whimsies and always helps me determine whether they are or aren\'t worth pursuing. Thanks for taking this sometimes bumpy journey with me!
Any other comments you'd like to share?: I purposely clipped the top of my "Now" photo so no one can see that I no longer have the magnificent helmet of hair I once sported. Somehow it slipped down onto my lip and chin... |

Favorite place(s) you have worked: | Windsor Foods |

Favorite places you've traveled: | London, Tokyo, Italy; Hawaii; Baja California; Civil War battlefield locations throughout the United States; have visited many major cities in the United States; though I live in a small town, I love just taking drives and seeing our beautiful countryside. |
Favorite teacher at LHS: | I think it was Mr. Wilbanks. He taught me how to diagram sentences and understand English sentence structure. I could not have done my job if I did not have the skills I learned in his class. |
Elementary school attended: | Hawthorne, Albert Lea, Minnesota |
Junior high school attended: | Brookside, Albert Lea, Minnesota |
Work history: Ajinomoto, Co. Inc. Tokyo, Japan (1991-2017) (Note: ownership transition over this 26 period was: Ajinomoto-Windsor, Ontario, CA. 2014-2017; Windsor Foods, Houston, Texas 1996-2014; Bernardi Italian Foods, subsidiary of Keebler Co., Toluca, IL. 1991-1996 ); Franklin Electric Co. Inc., Bluffton, IN. (1979-1991). From 1981-1986, I was at a FE plant in Jacksonville, AR.; Essex, subsidiary of United Technologies, Carey, OH., (1978-1979); City of Ft. Wayne, IN. (1977-1978); Wilson Foods Co. Inc., Logansport, IN. (1971-1977- summers and holiday breaks)
Funny or interesting story about travel: 45,000 steps in Tokyo: In 2016, I had a business meeting in Tokyo, Japan. I left a day early so I could enjoy visiting the city. One morning, I left my hotel at 8 am and returned about 10 pm and walked throughout the city. My phone kept running out of charge so I had to keep stopping to find an outside electrical outlet to charge my phone. This continued to happen all day long. I had a lot of idle time to simply watch the environment around me. I saw no homeless people nor trash on the streets. There was not a lot of honking of horns. Men and women were walking down the streets in suits. No one walked on a red light nor did I see anyone jay walk. It was an amazing day of observation. In my mind, it was like a \\\"Human Symphony\\\" in action on the streets of Tokyo.
Things you remember most about your years at LHS: Moving 500 miles in my first year of high school from Minnesota to Indiana with my Dad\\\'s transfer to Wilson Foods had a compelling impact on my life. I want to thank everyone for welcoming and accepting me during this time. I also loved the Berry Bowl- what a venerable venue that was. However, I did not particularly enjoy running the steps!
Shout out to someone/something that was a positive force in your life:
Dr. Stephen Hayford. I was not going to return to graduate school my second year because I was not very fond of the department head. Dr. Hayford had just arrived as a young professor and convinced me to stay in the program. I graduated and in 1977 Dr. Hayford pushed me out of my nest and helped me secure my first professional job working for the city of Ft Wayne, IN. Life goes on and I did not have anymore contact with Dr. Hayford until I retired in 2017. I looked him up on the IU website and he was still there teaching. I reached out to him and in August 2017, on a trip to Cincinnati to see the Cubs play the Reds, I went through Bloomington to take Dr. Hayford out to dinner. I told him that I would not have had a successful career without the things he had done for me. I Thanked him for being my mentor. It was a very special reunion for me and he appreciated that I reached out to him. |
