Janice Lynn Boxell

1953-04-10 1970-10-17
When Janice Boxell was born on 10 April 1953, in Logansport, Indiana, United States, her father, Donald M Boxell, was 25 and her mother, Norma Jo Chapman, was 22. She died on 17 October 1970, in her hometown, at the age of 17.

Janice and I shared younger brothers who were diligent in recruiting subscribers to the local paper.  They both won prizes to spend the day at Indiana Beach and Janice and I were honored to be chosen to be their guests.  What a fun day we had on behalf of Keith and Gary!   I also remember arriving at Purdue on that fateful day, encountering former Logansport graduates who asked about Janice and those in her car, never dreaming that my parents early arrival to Purdue allowed me the calm of another day before finding out the horrible news of her death.  I am still saddened to remember a life gone too soon!

Janice was my one of my many first cousins and my best friend. We had so much fun and got into ALOT of trouble together. Many times we walked from our band performance at the football stadium to her home on 24th and Broadway, changed clothes and then walked to the dance at the YMCA on 9th street. Of course I would never let my children do that now. I miss her to this day and wish I could have apologized to her before she died. I remember Charley Hamm driving me through the country side all day while I wept for her death.

I remember that day in October of our senior year. I lived on the south side and recall all of the sirens that headed out on SR 25. The deaths of Jan and Scott Laing that haorrible day was the first dose of mortality for me.  My younger sister, Lynne, married Jan's younger brother, Keith, and they had two daughters: Jocelyn and Adrea. Those girls were deprived of a wonderful aunt.
