I grew up with Jack, attending Sunday School together at 9th St. Christian Church, along with Janet Roark, Lisa Terry, Terri Adair, Janice Boxell, Dave Powlen, and Rick Spall (who went to Lewis Cass). I probably left out someone -apologies in advance. Jack always had a funny wisecrack thanks to his wacky sense of humor. Fast forward to 1978. My wife and I were newlyweds . We had recently purchased our first home in Irvington on the east side of Indy. There was a knock on the door - it was Jack. He came by to say hello, and to let me know that he would drive by my house daily while on patrol. Wow. What a gracious thing to do. Few people know that Jack died from a gunshot wound sustained while on duty. Such a shame. A fine man gone way too soon. RIP, my friend.

I remember Jack well from grade school, especially his friendliness.  On the way home from elementary school one day, I protected my walking partner, Chris Frushour, from Fritz Kolmerton who was teasing her with his slingshot.  I guess I tackled Fritz in front of Jack's father's grocery store in full view of Jack who let everyone know of my exploits the next day at Daniel Webster!  I always wondered later if I might have interefered with a budding romance... Another memory occurred in downtown Indianapolis a few years after graduation from Purdue and getting my first job at Day Adult High School, then located at 13th and Senate.  I was standing in line waiting to order some lunch when I heard from behind me - "What's a girl from Logansport doing in downtown Indianapolis?!"  And I turned and asked him the same thing.  Something about our growing up experience made us good candidates for service as a teacher and law enforcement officer.  Good memories of a great guy!
